Fieldwork orientation visit to Rainbow Homes, Bengaluru

A one-day orientation visit to Rainbow Homes took place on the 5thof July, 2019. The students were divided into two groups. One group visited Sneh Ghar, which is a home for male (boys) children from the streets. The other group of students visited the girls’ home in Wilson Garden. The orientation session at Sneh Ghar was handled by Mr. Santosh and the session at the Wilson Garden home for girls was handled by Ms. Shiny Vincent. Both sessions began at around 2 PM and the students were informed about the history of the organisation and its activities. Students were informed that the aim of the organisation was to shelter one of the most vulnerable sections of the society which is street children. The rainbow network runs 45 homes across India.  Rainbow Home secures the basic rights of the children through guaranteed education, nutrition, clothing, health care, recreation, love and support to ensure their reintegration into the mainstream of Indian Society. The children are enrolled to regular classes in school according to their age after a short period of observation and personal bridge course sessions. Post the orientation, students were given an opportunity to interact with the children in both homes. The students conducted a few fun activities for the children. The children then showed the students around the homes, following which the orientation visit concluded.
