Alumni lecture series: Role of social worker in community-based health care

 

The sixth session of SWSA alumni lecture series was held on 14th of May, 2021.The session was held on Microsoft teams and all the students from School of Social Work were asked to join. Ms. Tenzin Noryang from Ist BSW was the Emcee for the lecture. Sr.Mary Nisha of 2nd  MSW, led the session in prayer. The alumni guest Mr. Dillip Davis AJ works as a Medico Social Worker in Department of community health, St.John’s Medical College, Bengaluru. Mr. Dillip talked in detail about his contributions as a Medico social worker in the field of community health. He also gave an overview of the pointers that  social worker needs to keep in mind as professionals. He motivated all the students to not give up on their dreams and to be consistent with their work. The speaker also shared his personal experiences that he faced during the initial years of his job. Students were so enthusiast and asked many questions and he answered all of them. Harris Joseph from 2nd BSW moderated the session and thanked the speaker. After this Prof. Kiran Jeevan, Assistant professor, School of social work and Public Relations Officer of the college addressed the gathering. Sherin from 3rd BSW and the Vice President of SWSA proposed the vote of thanks. With this , Social Work Student’s Association successfully finished the last lecture of Alumni Lecture series.

Alumni lecture series: Social Work and Job opportunities in North East

 The fifth session of Social Work Students Association (SWSA) -Alumni lecture series was held on 30th of April, 2021. The lecture was started by Emcee Ms.Cinthia from IIIBSW . Ms. Merlin from IIIBSW led the session in  prayer .The alumni guest Ms.Lucky Nora  Tmung (District Community Mobilizer Coordination SSA-SEMAM, Department of Eduction ) highlighted on ways to be adaptive in a new working environment and also shared her own experience while working in Sarva Siksha Abiyan- Flagship programme of Right to Education and also her intervention mainly focusing on school dropouts , inclusive education, community mobilization etc. The speaker highlighted the bright side of her experience in working and how each one of us can be an agent of change. Her presentation was very realistic and students were able to get a deep understanding of social work as a profession in field. After her presentation she willingly answered the questions asked by the students and the session was moderated by Upasana from 3rd BSW. Dr. Ramagokula Krishnan, Assistant professor, School of Social Work gave the concluding remarks to the session. Kashvi Srivastav from 1BS

UBUNTU- Intercollegiate Virtual Fest

 Social Work Students Association  (SWSA) organized an inter collegiate virtual fest on the theme “Strengthening Social Diversity and Interconnectedness”. The fest was named as UBUNTU meaning – “I am because we are”. The fest took place from 22/04/2021 till 27/04/2021. Events conducted include  Creative writing, Photography, Poster Making, Social Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship and Extempore. A total of 63 students participated from 16 colleges all over India. Expert  judges from each field selected the winners. School of Social Work-Roshni Nilaya (Autonomous), Mangalore won the overall championship. Mount Carmel College, Bangalore came in the second position. All the results were declared through the official Instagram page of SWSA.
